Permanent Residency to foreigners of countries considered friendly who have a financial interest in Panama.
I. The following countries apply
United States of America

All documents coming from the other country should be apostilled. If the documents are not written in Spanish, ensure they are translated in Panama by an authorized translator. Permanent Residency would be issued once Immigration approves it. Duration: about 3 to 7 months.
Work Permit would also be issued once it is approved. The steps to obtaining the work permit are different, and the Ministry of Labor does it.
Five (5) years after the Permanent Residency is obtained you can proceed to apply for citizenship. If you stay out of Panama for two straight years, the Permanent Residency can be forfeited.

The first step is to obtain your Police Records in your country and gets it apostilled. During that period you should go ahead and open the bank account if you do not have one in Panama, and collect all the documents that show the financial interest. If you have already registered your company, it is valid. If you haven't, it is recommended you get one registered since only having a bank account is not enough. You can get your company registered in approximately one(1) week.
II. Permanent Residency for Foreign Professional
By virtue of this visa published on the 9th, October, 2012, professionals from other countries will be eligible to apply for a permanent residency in Panama. Upon approval, every eligible professional will be presented with a provisional visa valid for a period of two years after which they will be permitted to apply for a permanent residence.

The pension visa is structured to accommodate retired people and applicants possessing a lifetime annuity to the tune of at least $1,250 for life.
It is a flexible package that allows couples to combine their annuities to meet the requirements. An exception will be granted when the primary applicant makes an investment of not less than $100,000 USD in the Panama real estate. In this case, the requirement for annuity will be reviewed downwards to $750.
Permitted sources of annuity include- the government, military, and a recognized corporation, a major stakeholder in the banking and financial sector, a private corporation.

|Visa Self Economic Solvency|
This is a special form of visa created to attract wealthy foreigners to apply for a permanent residence in Panama. There are three basic criteria to qualify for this visa, they are:
Deposit Panama Bank
1) An investment in the Panama real property equity excluding loans or mortgages valued at $300,000 and above only
There are provisions to include family members in this visa. This will attract an investment of $2,000 per person. The real estate documents can made out in the name of the investor or the Private Interest Foundation( in this case, it will be clearly indicated that the primary applicant is either a beneficiary or the original facilitator). It is forbidden to make out the real estate documents in the name of a corporate organization or trust. Proof of financial ability to live well and support the family included in the application will also be required.
2) An investment of not less than $300,000 spread across three years in a Panama bank
time deposit (issued Certificate of Deposit). An extra $2,000 investment will be required for any other family members included in the visa application. The issued certificate of deposit from the Panama bank must bear the name of the primary applicant only.
3) A combination of the first two criteria
will also be permitted. That is a real estate investment in the Panama real property and the Panama bank Certificate of Deposit where the total investment will sum up to $300,000 USD or the equivalent in foreign currency. There will be an extra investment of $2,000 USD required for any family included in the visa application documentation.
