Panama Street Addresses
Panama does not have street numbering, nor does it have postal zip codes. There is no home postal delivery, which is why most everyone opens an account with a company such as Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) to receive their mail.
It has the added benefit of receiving goods ordered from Amazon at a Miami address and then shipping it securely, quickly and cheaply across to your neighbourhood MBE mailbox for collection. Since goods up to a value of US$200-00 enter duty-free (i.e., not going through customs) this is a popular means of shopping for scarce or personal preference goods from the USA.
Another consequence is that directions are typically given in Panama by referring to a street’s popular name (i.e., Tumba Muerto instead of Ricardo J. Alfaro) and stating something like the yellow house opposite the MacDonalds.
